Walking and cycling in the area
The Viking Way footpath runs past the front door of The Thorold. It is 147 miles long and runs between Barton-upon-Humber and Oakham. However, if you would prefer something a little shorter there are several circular walks of varying lengths.
Circular walks around the bird hide off Barkston Road or around Hougham take about 40 minutes. A stroll to Barkston and back is a couple of hours as is over the fields to Foston and Westborough in the other direction.
Cyclists can enjoy many gently undulating routes in the area. A pleasant 14-mile circular route takes in Hougham, Dry Doddington, Stubton, Brandon, Hough-on-the-Hill and Gelston.
Feel free to borrow an OS map from the bar to help you explore.
